Help & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our diamonds, rings, shipping, returns, and lifetime promise — answered clearly and honestly.
Are your diamonds GIA certified?
Yes — all our natural diamonds are independently certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the world's most respected grading laboratory. Lab-grown diamonds in our collection are certified by IGI or GCAL, both recognised global standards for laboratory-grown stones.
What is the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Lab-grown and natural diamonds are chemically and physically identical — both are pure crystalline carbon graded on the same 4Cs scale. The difference is origin: natural diamonds formed over billions of years deep in the Earth, while lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment in weeks. Natural diamonds command a premium for rarity; lab-grown offer exceptional value, typically 60–80% less for the same grade.
Where do your diamonds come from?
Our natural diamonds are sourced from Kimberley Process-certified suppliers in Canada, Botswana, and South Africa, ensuring conflict-free provenance. Each stone is hand-selected by our gemologists at our atelier in India before being set and shipped to Australia. We can provide origin documentation for any stone on request.
What diamond certifications do you accept for custom orders?
We work with diamonds certified by GIA, IGI, GCAL, and HRD. We do not accept uncertified stones for custom commissions as we cannot verify the declared grade without independent lab documentation. If you have a stone certified by another lab, contact us and we'll review it on a case-by-case basis.
Can I view a diamond in person before purchasing?
Yes. We offer private concierge appointments in Sydney and Melbourne where you can view certified stones under professional lighting and magnification. Appointments are complimentary and obligation-free — contact us via the inquiry form to schedule a session with one of our gemologists.
How do I find my ring size?
The most accurate method is to visit a local jeweller for a free sizing. At home, you can wrap a narrow strip of paper around your finger, mark where it meets, measure the length in millimetres, and cross-reference our size chart at avelyngold.com.au/ring-size-guide. We also offer a complimentary printable ring sizer — contact us and we'll send the PDF.
Can I order a ring in a different size after purchase?
Yes. All Avelyngold ring purchases include free lifetime resizing under our Lifetime Promise. Bring your ring to any of our service centres or post it to us with insured shipping and we will resize it at no cost, as many times as you need. Some ring styles with pavé or channel-set stones across the band have limited resize ranges — our team will advise at time of order.
Can I design a custom or bespoke engagement ring?
Absolutely — bespoke commissions are our speciality. Our atelier in India handles the full production pipeline from rough metal to finished piece, so we can accommodate almost any design. Send us a sketch, an inspiration photo, or simply describe what you have in mind via our inquiry form. A typical custom engagement ring takes 3–4 weeks from design approval to delivery.
How long does production take?
Made-to-order pieces take 10–14 business days in our India atelier. Once complete, your piece is quality-checked, insured, and shipped to Australia via express courier in 2–4 business days. Total from order to door is typically 14–18 business days. Rush production (7 business days) is available on request for an additional fee — contact us if you have a deadline.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently ship within Australia and to New Zealand. International shipping to other countries including the UK, US, and Singapore is available on request — contact us before placing your order and we'll arrange a quote that includes customs documentation and insurance. Import duties are the buyer's responsibility.
How is my order shipped and is it insured?
All orders are shipped via insured express courier with a tracked, signature-required delivery. Each parcel is insured for full replacement value during transit. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order dispatches. We use plain, discreet packaging with no branding on the outer box to protect privacy during delivery.
What is your returns policy?
Because every piece is made to order specifically for you, we are unable to accept returns for change of mind. However, if your piece arrives with a manufacturing defect or differs materially from your approved design, we will repair, remake, or refund it at our cost. We encourage all customers to review their design approval carefully before production begins — our team is available to clarify any details.
Do you accept Afterpay or buy-now-pay-later?
Yes, we accept Afterpay for orders up to $2,000 AUD, allowing you to split your purchase into four fortnightly instalments with no interest. For orders above $2,000, we offer bank transfer with a 1.5% discount, or Visa/Mastercard/Amex credit card payments. Contact us if you'd like to discuss a staged payment arrangement for larger commissions.
Is it safe to pay on your website?
Yes. All payments on avelyngold.com.au are processed by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. We never see or store your card details — they are handled entirely by Stripe's encrypted infrastructure. Our site runs on HTTPS with a valid SSL certificate throughout. Bank transfer details are provided for EFT orders after checkout.
How do I care for my ring at home?
Clean your ring every 2–3 weeks using warm water, a drop of dish soap, and a soft toothbrush to dislodge oil and dirt from the underside of the stone. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home as they can loosen pavé settings over time. Remove your ring during heavy gym work, gardening, and when applying perfume or hand cream. Store it separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratching.
Does white gold need rhodium plating?
Yes. White gold is a natural yellow-gold alloy that is rhodium-plated to achieve its bright white finish. The plating gradually wears away with daily contact — typically showing at 12–18 months. Our complimentary annual polish service includes a rhodium top-up for white gold pieces. If you need a re-plate between annual visits, we offer this service at cost.
What does your lifetime warranty cover?
Our lifetime warranty covers all manufacturing defects including loose or lost prongs, broken clasps, structural cracking, and stone loss caused by a defective setting. Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, and loss are not covered — we recommend insuring your piece through a specialist jewellery insurer.
